1 Well, these may not be "secrets" but they are the small hidden practices of great leadership. The software that runs the hardware kinda thing. In other words, these should be part of your "wiring" or a part of the practices and core values that make you... you. And if "you" are a leader, these can be "downloaded" over a period of time with prayer and practice. If these are not part of your current DNA as a leader, guess what.. YOU CAN CHANGE! Helping those around them change for the better is at the core of every great leader's heart. So here goes...
1. Don’t try to ACT like the leader, just let others follow. If you are truly a leader, you don’t have to remind people about it-they know!
2.Treat all others with great respect: respect their time, talents & tendencies. Honor all those on your team equally, but in the context of their uniqueness.
3. Let the phrase, “So, what do you think?” constantly be on your lips. Getting input from others does take more time, but pays HUGE dividends in the future.
4. Never be quick to answer a problem, instead allow others to decide and fail. If you feel you have to solve every problem, no one else will feel they can try.
5. Learn something unique & personal about those around you. Ask them about it, interject it in conversations. This demonstrates you value them personally.
6. Try to use the pronoun “we” and not “me.” Show others you are a team player. Look for ways to be a follower, not always the leader.
7. Guard those on your team; if someone on your team fails, take the heat. This demonstrates to others that your team is a "safe" place.
8. If your team hits a “home run” never be seen as the one holding the bat. Always take the blame, but never the applause.
9. Make others feel that they're on the greatest team ever. That comes when you (the leader) are the greatest cheerleader ever!
10. Never feel threatened by those more talented than you. There is no greater honor for a leader than someone on your team to do better than you!
